Mok : More Goodies Given

07/02/2012 Stulang assemblyman Mok Chek Hou feels the Year of the Dragon will be good for the people of the city especially in the wake of all the good news that they have been receiving.

He was referring to the Southern College being offered a University College status by the Higher Education Ministry, the annual Chingay parade being awarded national heritage status by the Government and the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s visit to the state to take part in the parade and also to check on the development taking place in the city.

“All this is good for city folks as it shows that the Government recognises efforts of the local community especially the Chingay procession which is more than 140 years old,” he said when met at his Chinese New Year Open house here recently.

Mok hoped Najib would announce more goodies to make Johor Baru more vibrant during his visit on Feb 12.

“I hope continues to announce more incentives for the people especially the less fortunate this year,” he said, adding that he was happy with the turnout of 2,000 guests at his open house.

Mok said many people came with their families and friends.

Besides local delicacies, there were also performances from a local lion dance troupe.

Also present was Johor Baru MP Datuk Shahrir Samad and other local leaders.
